# Supervision While a Step Runs

> Coming soon: The attempt's own events feed a fast decision model on a debounce, and the run carries on, stops and retries, or puts the step to a person.

<Note>
  **Coming soon.** Not in this release. This page says what the feature is,
  so that the shape is public before the code is.
</Note>

Catch a step that has lost its way while it runs, instead of an hour later
when its budget is gone. Every gate that ships today sits between steps: a
step finishes, something judges the result, and the run moves on. That
leaves one case unanswered, a step that is going nowhere half an hour into
an hour's budget.

A supervised step will be watched while it works. Its own events feed a
fast decision model on a debounce, which answers a few typed questions.
Then the run carries on, stops and retries, or puts the step in front of a
person. The step doesn't pause to be assessed. The work keeps going while
the judgement happens beside it, and a run that has lost its way costs a
fraction of its budget instead of all of it.

## Next steps

* [The record](/docs/concepts/record): the events a supervisor would read.
* [Supervised local runs](/docs/driving/runner): the watchdog that restarts a
  killed run today.
