# Installation

> Install Obversa and prepare your project to run an agent workflow.

Obversa is a library you import: add the packages to a Node project, write
a TypeScript file, and run it. There's nothing to clone, no service to run
and no account to sign into.

## Prerequisites

You need:

* **Node.js 22.12 or later.**
* **npm or pnpm.**
* **A coding agent signed in**, such as Claude Code or Codex, for a run that
  calls a model.

Every Obversa package is an ES module, so the project needs
`"type": "module"` in its `package.json`, and `tsx` runs a TypeScript file
directly:

```bash Terminal theme={null}
npm pkg set type=module
npm install --save-dev tsx
```

## Install

Install the bundle:

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash npm theme={null}
  npm install @obversa/obversa
  ```

  ```bash pnpm theme={null}
  pnpm add @obversa/obversa
  ```
</CodeGroup>

The bundle installs every package except the Jev, Devin, Mastra and OpenAI
Agents engines, which each install on their own. It has no API of its own,
so import each tool from its own package.
[Plugins and tools](/docs/packages) lists what each engine needs on your machine.

## Next steps

* [First run](/docs/get-started/first-run): have Claude write a function, run its
  tests, and ask Codex to review it.
* [Examples](/docs/workflows): complete teams you can copy, with what each run
  printed.
* [Contributing](https://github.com/jonny981/obversa/blob/main/AGENTS.md):
  working on Obversa itself needs a checkout, and the contributor guide
  covers it.
